Canyonlands

Book commissioned by Back of Beyond Bookstore in Moab, Utah. The book was a collaboration of a fine printing press, a local woodworker, and a book artist (me) and we gifted the book to Terry Tempest Williams at a reception prior to her reading from her new book, The Hour of Land. The text consisted of materials that were not used in her new book and with permission from her publisher the materials were printed by a fine book printing company. The wood is walnut from an old tree that came from the valley in which Terry resides. It was milled by a friend and neighbor. Because the text block was already sewn and glued I used goat leather to form the spine and attached the end papers and covers to the leather. I created eco dyed end papers using sage and walnut leaves from the valley the walnut tree came from.

Materials: Walnut covers, letterpress printed text, eco dyed endpapers, goat leather.
